Jewel Cave National Monument - Custer, South Dakota

Today, we visited Jewel Cave National Monument, which is the second longest cave in the world. Jewel Cave is much different that Wind Cave which we visited a few days ago. Jewel Cave contains a number of bright and colorful formations, whereas Wind Cave has primarily one type of formation (boxwork). The tour through Jewel Cave is a little more strenuous with a number of steep staircases. It was very enjoyable and well worth the trip.
An example of Cave Bacon. This formation is over 20 feet long.
