Iron Mountain Road - Custer, South Dakota

There was only a 30% chance of rain this afternoon, so we decided to take the Iron Mountain Road scenic drive...with the top down. On the way we took a detour to see if the Mount Coolidge Lookout & Fire Tower was open. It was, so we drove to the top. From the top you can see the Crazy Horse Monument, Mount Rushmore, The Needles, and The Badlands. Click on the photo to enlarge it.

During our drive on the Iron Mountain Road, we stopped to feed the burros. They especially like carrots. We also saw a baby burro and it's mother.
Toward the end of the Iron Mountain Road there are three narrow tunnels. Two of the tunnels provide a view of Mount Rushmore.

Also, there are two Pigtail Bridges, made of wood, that make a tight 360 degree turn. As we exited the Iron Mountain Road it began to sprinkle and the clouds were threatening, so we stopped and put the tops back on the Jeep.
