Geocaching Long Canyon Trail - Moab, Utah

We took the drive on Hwy 313 around to the Long Canyon Trail to do some geocaching. Along the way, we stopped at several scenic overlooks. The views were spectacular! I missed the turnoff to Long Canyon Trail and had to backtrack about five miles when we ended up at the entrance to Canyonlands National Park.

These rock formations are named Merrimac and Monitor, because of their resemblance to the Civil War ironclad ships.

The Long Canyon Trail was fairly easy trail with only one narrow area of sand. It has several switchbacks and pullouts that provide some great views.

Long Canyon Trail is most famous for this leaning rock. From a distance is looks like it is impassible. But as you approach it, the pass is much larger than it looks. It was at this point that we spent about 30 minutes looking for a cache, but did not find it. We may go back tomorrow and look again.

Here we stopped to find a cache and watch some rock-climbers.

We stopped in town at the Moab Diner for their famous green-chili sauce and then home for cards.
